A new teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final film in the Star Wars’ sequel trilogy, has been released. The two-and-a-half-minute clip features snippets from the previous films in the franchise, behind-the-scenes footage and basically sets up The Rise of Skywalkers as this grand conclusion of the series.
The Rise of Skywalker will wrap up the tale of the Skywalkers that began with 1977’s original Star Wars.
The teaser also hammers home the immense popularity and influence of the franchise on pop culture, and we are shown even short clips from several Star Wars parodies.
The Rise of Skywalker brings back JJ Abrams, the director of the first film in the trilogy, The Force Awakens. The second iteration, The Last Jedi, was helmed by Rian Johnson.
The film will put Daisy Ridley’s Rey again in the path of Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and will also cap off the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith.
Emperor Palpatine appears to have been brought back from the dead too and his voice is heard in the trailers. Ian McDiarmid will reprise the role from Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will make an appearance through old footage.
The film hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
