Warner Bros and DC’s Batman reboot movie, currently titled The Batman, has cast another supervillain. This time it is mobster and head of the Falcone Crime Family, Carmine Falcone.
Italian-American actor John Turturro, known for his work in movies like The Big Lebowski and in television shows such as HBO’s The Night Of, has been cast in the role.
Matt Reeves, who is helming the Robert Pattinson-headlined project, tweeted a GIF of Turturro on his Twitter account. He captioned it, “🦇 I said… #CarmineFalcone.”
The film has accumulated an impressively huge cast of characters. Apart from Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, it stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Penguin and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon.
Reeves, who is directing using his own script, has earlier described his take on the Batman as a more grounded take on the character and has also said that it will explore the superhero’s vaunted detective abilities in detail.
Ben Affleck was the last actor to play the role of Batman. He first appeared in the character in Batman v Superman in 2016, before reprising it in 2017’s Justice League. After the critical and commercial failure of Justice League, one of the most expensive films ever made, the actor chose to quit the role.
The Batman will hit the theatres on June 25, 2021.
