Hong Kong elections: Observers warn of pro-China ‘bribery’ in crunch votes

This Hong Kong election has been labelled “a de facto referendum for Hong Kong people,” according to Frank Liu, 32, a resident and supporter of the pro-democracy movement.

Speaking outside a polling station in the city’s northwest, he said: “People have taken to the streets and protested against the administration, but the government refuses to listen to our opinion.”

This news comes as Joshua Wong, one of the most prominent figures of the pro-democracy movement, accused the government of “political screening” after an election officer ruled invalid his nomination to stand in todays elections in Hong Kong.
